Vår Frue Kirke (Church of Our Lady) benefits from a central location near the harbour of Tromsø. It is the northernmost Roman Catholic Church in the world, and has in residence the most Northern dwelling bishop. The charming church dates from 1861 and is in a traditional style. The church boasts that Pope John Paul II visited in 1989 and stayed as a guest of the Bishop of Tromsø.
