Varaldsøy is a beautiful largeisland that lies in the middle of the Hardangerfjord. It once formed a seperate municipality but is now part of Kvinnherad. The island is an unspoilt paradise. Farming and fishing remain the main activities of the inhabitants. Because of its unusual geological makeup, the island supports an abundance of flowers, plants, trees and birdlife. During the summer it is especially spectacular. The largest yew tree in Northern Europe is found here.
