Vangskyrkja is the main church of Voss and lies in the heart of the town. Its history is long. The church is built of stone and was erected during the late thirteenth century. This church replaced a wooden one already on the site. The site of the church was once occupied by a pagan temple. The great stone cross to the south of the church is said to have been placed there by King Olav Haraldson in the eleventh century in his efforts to convert the natives to Christianity. Guided tours of the church are available during the summer season.
