Utsira Church was built between 1780 and 1785. In its original form the church has no tower. It is said the timber needed to build the church was floated to the island as logs and hewn on the island. The church was substatially restored and altered in the late nineteenth century, although the original pulpit remains. It continues to serve the two hundred or so strong population of Norway’s smallest municipality. Guided tours are available by arrangement.
