The Trondheim Maritime Museum is housed in a building which once served as a prison and guardhouse and which was built in 1725. The museum was moved here in 1971, its collection having been established in 1920. The museum’s collection contains a huge range of naval memorabilia including instruments, photographs, pictures, and equipment. The harpoon from the whaler Star I, and many objects from the frigate "The Pearl", which was sunk in 1781, are to be found here. The museum has a souvenir shop and houses special exhibitions.
