The Wharves lie in the heart of historic Trondheim and are very attractive to tourists. They are found along the banks of the River Nidelva. The oldest buildings date back to the eighteenth century. They remind the visitor of the importance of Trondheim as a trading city. The original buildings were largely destroyed by a Swedish raid during the seventeenth century. Many of the more recent buildings nowadays house charming cafes and shops.
