Svanøy is reached via a pleasant boat trip from Florø, the main settlement of Flora municipality. Two key attractions of the island are a very old stone cross commemorating King Olav the Holy (Saint Olav) and a site used by the Vikings for sacrifices. The island, once an important commercial centre, is now known as a green and picturesque place. The seventeenth century Svanøy estate, with its impressive main building, gardens and woodland, is worth seeing.
