The Stone Ship lies in the centre of Steinkjer, in the grounds of the Tingvold Park Hotel. It is made up of arrays of stones laid out in the shape of a ship. It was created during Viking times between the seventh and eleventh centuries. It appears to consist of empty graves. It is believed that this memorial is to sailors who never returned from their voyages. The ship may symbolise a ship that takes them to the afterlife.
