The Stave Church is situated in the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History and is one of the key attractions of the delightful area. The church dates from around 1200, and was originally located in the village of Gol. It was moved to this site in the late nineteenth century on the orders of King Oscar II. Stave churches are found throughout Norway and are extraordinarily elaborate medieval structures built entirely of wood that have been preserved through to the present day. This is a particularly fine example.
