St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church lies near to the centre of the town, and to the harbour. The church is the northernmost Catholic Church in the world. The church was completed in 1958, being built mainly by German volunteers. The little church owns a crucifix which was made by an Austrian who had been held prisoner of war in Narvik. The church also supports a small Catholic school.
