The Snorri Sturluson Statue lies in the centre of Bergen, near to the Bryggens museum and the historic medieval buildings that form a key attraction in the town. The sculpture is the work of one of Norway’s most celebrated artists, Gustav Vigelund. Snorri Stuluson hailed from Iceland and was a chieftain and poet. He lived between 1179-1241. He was the author of many sagas. His History of the Kings of Norway remains the one of the main sources for medieval Scandinavian history. Invited to Norway by King Haakon IV, the two fell out and the poet was eventaully killed on the orders of the King.
