Søndre Slagen Church lies out to the east of Tønder city centre. It is a few minutes drive away. It lies in the heart of a large piece of woodland to the south of Astreaveien, which accounts for its nickname "The Cathedral in the Woods". The church is built in stone. The architect was Arnstein Arneberg. The altarpiece is a monumental tapestry by Else-Marie Jakobsen. The church holds services for a Lutheran congregation.
