Sildekona means "The Herring Woman" in Norwegian. This iconic statue is located at Apotekertorget or "The Pharmacy Square". The statue, which is realistic, was erected in 1990. It is by the sculptor Bjørn Tore Skjøsvik. It depicts a fishwife salting and packing herrings into a barrel, something that once would have been a common sight here. The statue was raised through corporate and private subscription.
