Sandefjord became an important spa town during the nineteenth century. Visitors from all over Europe came here to "take the waters". The baths remained open until the beginning of the Second World War. The large wooden building that housed the baths has become a cultural centre. Part of it houses a museum that documents the history of Sandefjord as a spa town. It includes a model of the spa as it would have appeared in 1900, and a collection of pictures and postcards relating to the baths’ history.
