The Sandefjord Maritime Museum lies in the heart of the southern Norwegian town. Maritime traditions are a rich part of local history. Key exhibitions focus on the period of the great sailing ships, namely the latter half of the nineteenth century. There are also many exhibits related to the "King’s Mound" at Golstad, which was excavated by archaeologists in 1880, and was found to contain the best preserved Viking Ship in Norway.
