Sandefjord has a long and distinguished maritime history. The harbour has always been central to the town’s economy. Originally the port was used for the export of timber, a valuable export in a country so richly endowed with trees. Today the area is less dominated by commercial shipping, and the area serves more light pleasure boats and coastal fishing boats. There are several pleasant restaurants and cafes in the harbour area. You will find a floating chapel here. A long-established fish shop sells a proportion of the local catch.
