Sandar Church lies near to the centre of the city. A church was founded on this site in medieval times. The original building was erected in the thirteenth century. The present structure was built in 1792 in the Louis XV style. It is cruciform in shape. Originally the church rose to a dome. This was replaced by the spire you see today in 1868. It serves a Lutheran congregation.
