Saltfjellet Svartisen National Park, north of Mo i Rana, is the most varied of the national parks in Norway, and features glaciers, mountains, lakes and caves. The west is green but wild, the centre mountainous, and the east characterised by open fells. Svartisen glacier is the largest ice-sheet in northern Scandinavia. The limestone supports a rich and unusual flora. There are reindeer herding areas and ancient Sami monuments. Walking, caving, hunting, fishing and canoeing are among the many outdoor pursuits enjoyed here.
