The Royal Birch is situated in the northern reaches of Molde. It is where the King of Norway, Haakon, and his son Crown Pince Olav, sought shelter, as they were being hunted down by German bombers in 1940. The Peace Grove next to the birch symbolises the continuing struggle for peace. It contains trees planted by various luminaries, including Nobel Laureates and explorer Thor Heyerdal.
