Ryukan Church lies in the heart of the Telemark village that is overlooked by the famous and spectacular mountain Gaustatoppen. The church dates back to 1915 and as such is one of the most recent in the area, but it has an interesting history. It has twice suffered partial collapse owing to floods and rockslides. In 1965 the church was immortalised as it was used for the film "The Heroes of Telemark". Unfortunately, at time of the filming the entire interior was destroyed by fire.
