The Reconstruction Museum is located in the centre of Hammerfest in a modern building. The museum documents in detail the events before and after 1944, when the region was the victim of Hitler’s "scorched earth" policy, leaving the city razed to the ground and the inhabitants of the region homeless. Many aspects of the indigenous culture of the region are analysed and the process and effects of reconstruction examined. The museum has both a cafeteria and a shop.
