The Reclining Poet lies in the heart of Bergen, in Ole Bulls plass, one of the main squares. The square is dominated by a statue of the great virtuoso violinist after whom it is named. It is a realistic image, and is appropriate in a country which greatly values its literary tradition. The piece is cast in bronze. It was created by Hans Jacob Meyer. It was unveiled in 1958. The sculpture lies close to the "Blue Stone", one of the the most popular meeting places in the city.
