Rødven Stave Church lies about thirty kilometres outside Åndalsnes in a rural coastal location. The church is thought to date back to the fourteenth century. Stave churches are virtually unique to Norway in being permanent structures dating from medieval times constructed entirely of wood. The church is still used for services and weddings. There are guided tours conducted daily throughout the tourist season.
