The Oslo Theatre Museum lies in the heart of the city, near the new Town Hall. It was founded in 1939, and attempts to give a picture of the development of the theatre in the city through history. It is housed in the Old Town Hall, the venue for some of the first performances in the city during the seventeenth century. A considerable part of the collection relates to the old Christiania Theatre, demolished in 1899, where most of Henrik Ibsen’s plays were performed for the first time. A special feature has been developed in conjunction with national broadcaster NRK. Guided tours are possible by appointment.
