Oscarshall Palace lies on the Bygdøy peninsular, which is home to the Royal Farm and several museums. Oscarshall lies close to the water, and is surrounded by established woodland. It was built in the mid nineteenth century by King Oscar I, and later sold to the state. It is in neo Gothic style. There are significant English influences in the design. It is regarded as one of the finest buildings of its period in Norway. A series of terraces with fountains lead down from the palace to the sea.
