The Old Town of Stavanger is one of its cultural highlights and attracts many visitors from around the world. The conservation work done in this area has attracted several international awards. It is made up of one hundred and seventy three wooden buildings from around the turn of the eighteenth century. Most are small white cottages. There are many galleries and shops selling art and handicrafts in this area. It is a great place to look for a souvenir or take some interesting photographs.
