Old Eidsfoss, which lies by Lake Eikern in the municipality of Hof, is probably the best preseved traditional ironworks in Norway. The ironworks and small industrial town of Eidsfoss were established in the seventeenth century. Today more than twenty five important buildings, and the old Eidfoss Manor House are preserved. The project to preserve the town as a cultural monument and tourist attraction began in 1979.
