The Norwegian Petroleum Museum lies in the port of Stavanger, near to the city centre. The museum was established in the late 1990s. It uses high technology to explore every aspect of the oil industry which is so central to Norwegian prosperity. You can learn about the geological conditions that give rise to oil deposits, and what it is like to work on an oil rig. There is a three dimensional cinema presentation. Special activities are laid on for children. The museum has a gift shop and a cafe which gives fine views over the port.
