The Norwegian Navy Museum is one of four excellent museums that are found in Horten, known sometimes as "The Museum Town". It is found in the former naval base of Karljohansvern, which is located on a peninsular. The museum was established by Royal decree in 1853. It contains displays of boats and weaponry dating back to Viking times. There is an extensive collection of model ships. It is a popular family attraction.
