The Norwegian Mining Museum lies in the heart of Kongsberg. It is a national institution which is based in the former headquarters of a silver mining company. It contains extensive exhibitions on the history of mining in Norway, with particular reference to the local silver mining industry. It holds the largest collection of silver in Norway. The visitor is given interesting insights into the methods used in the mines and the working conditions of the miners. Guided tours of the museum are available.
