The Norwegian Industrial Workers’ Museum is housed in the old hydroelectric power station of Vemork to the west of Rjukan. The museum deals with the history of the development of Rjukan as an industrial centre and the everyday life of the workers during the course of the twentieth century. It is perhaps best known for its extensive exhibition on Rjukan during the Second World War, when this power station became the focus of the heavy water saboteur’s efforts to prevent the Nazis developing the nuclear bomb. There is an art gallery here. You will find a cafe and shop.
