Norangsdalen is one of the narrowest valleys in Norway. The mossy hillsides are flanked by spectacular mountains. For hundreds of years ships have moored at Øye in order to take a tour by horse and carriage of the the beautiful valley. The road along the valley was named "The Queen’s Route" in commemoration of the Silver Wedding of the Royal Couple in 1993. There are several reminders along the route of the powerful force of nature including houses built to protect against landslides and a lake, Lygnstøylvatnet, which was formed as a consequence of rockfall a century ago.
