The Royal Mint was founded by royal charter by the King of Denmark and Norway, Christian V, in 1685. It is one of the oldest Norwegian companies still in business. The mint was a subsidiary company of the silver mines until they closed in the nineteen fifties. Its collection is made up of a representative of Norwegian coinage from the days of Christian IV to the present day. The museum is part of Norwegian Mining Museum complex.
