The Munthe House of Art and Culture lies near the banks of the Lusterfjord. The building is more than two hundred years and has played a key role in the development of Norwegian culture and national identity. Several famous painters were frequent visitors here including Johannes Flintoe, Joachim Frich and Adolf Tidemand and Hans Gude. J. C. Dahl used it as a base for walking expeditions. The house, beautifully restored, is now open to visitors. Guided tours give the visitor an insight into the rich history of the place.
