Mortensrud Church lies a few kilometres to the south of Oslo city centre. It is very close to Mortensrud metro station. The church was built in 2002 by architects Jensen and Skodvin, who won an award for the extraordinary design. The church is made of slate, glass and steel and is designed to harmonise with nature. The altarpiece contains three pieces of stone. One is from Jerusalem. One is from Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Another is a fragment of the Berlin Wall.
