The Mission Museum lies just to the north of Stavanger city centre. It forms part of the academic school of mission and theology. It is the oldest museum in Stavanger. It was established in 1864. The museum holds a collection of more than five thousand varied and fascinating artefacts from exotic destinations including South Africa, China, Japan and Brazil. It provides a fascinating insight into Christian missionary activity and the many cultures and civilisations it reached.
