Merdø is a little island that once served as a customs post. It lies in the Skaggerak to the south of Arendal. A steamer serves the island, which is popular with tourists. A former farmhouse serves as the island museum. There are a couple of good beaches. There is a popular cafeteria on the island. There are some fine walks on the island, and execellent views are to be had from several locations.
