The Memorial Cemetery replaced the Cathedral cemetery in 1808 as the main burial ground for residents of Oslo. It is located to the north of the city centre. It is very well kept and is a pleasant, if sombre, place to have a stroll in peaceful surroundings. An integral part of the place is the Honorary Cemetery, established in 1904. It is here that you will find the sepulchral monuments to such famous Norwegians as painter Edvard Munch and dramatist Henrik Ibsen.
