The Maritime Museum is located near the centre of Bergen on the university campus. It deals with the history and development of shipping, and its significance for the city and the nation. The museum’s permanent exhibitions contain a large number of model ships, including some of Viking vessels. A range of artefacts including paintings and equipment give insight into life on board ship. There are archaeological finds on display. The museum has a library and photographic archive.
