Mariakirken, or the St. Mary’s Church, as it is sometimes known is the oldest building in the historic city of Bergen. It lies a stones’ throw from the historic harbour area. The church dates back to the twelfth century. It is an outstanding example of Romanesque architecture. The church is noted for its twin towers. Inside the church, the pulpit will be of particular interest to visitors. The elaborate piece is regarded as one of the finest Baroque works in Norway.
