The Local History Centre in Horten is found just by the Preus Museum (National Museum of Photography) and Maritime Museum, at the former naval base of Karljohansvern. The old navy hospital has been converted to house recreations of authentic domestic and commercial interiors, including a cobbler’s workshop, a blacksmith’s, a carpenter’s shop and a grocery store. There is a library with a reading room. There is a popular cafe here that offers fine views across the harbour.
