The monumental sculpture known as "The Lions" is a familiar landmark and one of the visual spectacles that symbolises Bergen. It lies in the main square, known as Torget in Norwegian, often called the "Fish Market" for the benefit of foreign visitors. The square is a bustling place that attracts numerous tourists and locals looking for a bargain. The sculpture, in bronze, was erected in the nineteen thirties. It is the work of the sculptor Schioll.
