Ålesund Town Park is located in the heart of the city, at the foot of the town mountain. From here you can climb the four hundred steps for fantastic views. The park was laid out in the nineteen twenties. It is a popular recreational area and contains a rich variety of plants and trees. The park has two significant statues. One depicts Kaiser Wilhelm, who gave assistance to the town after the devastating fire of 1904. The other depicts the tenth century King Rollo.
