Ålesund Museum is housed in a distinctive building that dates from 1919. It lies in the centre of the city and boasts fine views of the harbour and the town park. The museum contains a model of the town shortly before the devastating fire of 1904, after which it had to be largely rebuilt. You can learn a great deal about the fire and its consequences through the museum’s permanent exhibitions. There is also a lot of information about the experience of the town during World War II. There is a reconstruction of an old grocer’s store here.
