Kristiansten Fortress lies in the heart of historic Trondheim and occupies a prominent position looking out over the city. It was built in 1681, after the great city fire. It is well worth climbing to the top, from where you get spectacular views over the city and fjord. During the Nazi occupation of Norway, captured members of the Norwegian Resistance were executed here - there is a plaque commemorating them.
