Kongsberg Ski Museum lies in the heart of the town and is housed in the same complex as the Norwegian Mining Museum. The first ski jumping competition was held in Kongsberg back in 1881, and since then local people have excelled in winter sports. The collection of skiing memorabilia includes no less than 5000 skiing medals and trophies won by people from the town, who include the famous Ruud brothers. It includes several Olympic medals.
