Karmsund Folkemuseum is the main museum in Haugesund, and is located in the centre of the town. It was established in 1925. It is the headquarters of the regional museum group. Its permanent exhibitions explore the social, industrial and cultural development of the town and the surrounding area. There are exhibitions about the fishing and shipping industries. There are recreations of domestic and commercial environments from the past. The museum has a cafeteria and a shop which stocks a variety of souvenirs and books on local history.
