Helgheim Church is one of three churches in the municipality of Jølster. Set against the background of dramatic mountainous landscape, this long naved timber church was built in 1877 in a Gothic style. The architect was J. W. Norden. The church is built on a site held as sacred in pre Christian times. Previous churches have stood here. The altar painting depicts Christ crucified with the local mountains as a dramatic backdrop. The oldest of the church bells dates back to the seventeenth century.
