Havmannen lies by the edge of the water in the Norwegian town of Mo I Rana. The sculpture is a familiar local landmark and stands with its back to the town, looking out across the fjord towards the open sea. Its name means "The Man of the Sea". The piece is on a monumental scale, yet is designed to evoke a feeling of interior reflection at the wonder of the vastness of the ocean beyond the port.
