Hardanger Folk Museum was founded in 1911. The main site is a couple of hundred metres from the ferry landing at Utne. It is an open air museum made up of reconstructed buildings from several periods. There is an traditional cluster farm with a medieval log house at its centre. The museum also features an old grocer’s store, a crofter’s cottage and a wooden ski making workshop. There are several permanent exhibitions on aspects of local cultural history. The boathouse houses several interesting old boats. There is a souvenir shop. Guided tours are available.
